Kolkata, Nov 11 (IANS) An elderly person was lynched by a group of youths after he protested against the bursting of crackers in front of his house in Purulia district.
The incident took place Friday night near Indotar village under Santhaldihi police station area, around 190 km from here.
Reports said Subodh Kumar Mahato, 56, and his son Manas, protested against bursting of crackers by some youths in front of their house.
“In retaliation, the youths barged into our house and beat him up. They fled the scene as Subodh fell unconscious,” Manas said.
Subodh was rushed to the hospital where he was declared brought dead.
“We have registered a case under Section 304 against five youths on the basis of a complaint lodged by the victim’s family. All the accused are absconding,” Raghunathpur sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Tathagata Basu said.
