Yang will meet his Iranian counterpart Manouchehr Mottaki, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and probably also chief nuclear negotiator Saeid Jalili.

Beijing is against harsher sanctions against the Islamic state but has asked Iran to ease tensions by softening its current uncompromising stance ignoring demand by some world powers and an UN resolution that it suspend uranium enrichment process.

The US and some European countries suspect Tehran has been carrying out a secret plan to weaponise under the pretext of nuclear energy programme. US and other nations have also threatened Iran of tough sanctions if it fails to stop enrichment.

Tehran insists that its right to enrichment is not negotiable and its nuclear programme is for civilian use.
