India beat Pakistan in first leg of tennis series

Lahore (Pakistan) : India defeated Pakistan 2-1 in the first leg of the bilateral tennis series to take the lead here Wednesday.

The second and final leg of the series will be played in Islamabad starting Thursday.

Vivek Shokeen put India into the lead when he beat Aqeel Khan in straight sets in the first singles at Defence Club Tennis Courts Tuesday.

Then, top Pakistani player Aisam-ul-Haq-Qureshi defeated Indian national champion Ashutosh Singh 6-3, 6-4 in the second singles encounter to draw parity for the hosts.

Ashutosh and Shokeen then defeated Aisam and Aqeel 7-6 (5), 6-2 in the doubles match to win the Lahore leg 2-1.
