The People’s Cultural Centre (PECUC), an Orissa-based NGO working for children since 1990, has been giving away this award for the past 10 years after selecting the winner through a jury process.

Dash is the second journalist to win this award. Others who have won it include social activists and writers, PECUC coordinator Anuradha Mohanty said.

Soumya Ranjan Patnaik, the editor of leading Oriya daily Sambad, gave Dash the award — which included a citation, a shawl and a trophy — at a function here Wednesday on the concluding day of a children’s festival that began Nov 11.

Dash was also awarded the Manthan Award 2007, an initiative by the NGO Digital Empowerment Foundation, in September in New Delhi for creating the best e-content for development under the e-news category.
