Barakatullah University plans to revive Hockey in India

Bhopal: Barakatullah University (BU) of Bhopal plans to revive Hockey by making Bhopal once again a nursery for Hockey in India. Former hockey players of India were invited by the Vice Chancellor of the University on Monday for a brain storming session.

Famous hockey players of India like Aslam Sher Khan, Shafqat Mohammed, B. S. Kushwaha, Mohd. Shakeel, Inamur Rahman, Jalaluddin, Sameer Dad, and Altafur Rahman were invited by the VC on Monday.

Bhopal has given a number of national and international hockey players. To revive Bhopal as nursery of Indian hockey, BU have formed a four member committee to suggest ways for the development of hockey.

Maulana Barakatullah was famous scholar and revolutionary who fought for India’s freedom. His campaign for India’s freedom took him to the United States where in 1927 he died in California. In his honor Bhopal University was renamed Barakatullah Vishwavidyalaya in 1988.
