“It is for the first time that a hi-tech crime like this has been committed in Kashmir,” a senior police officer said here.

“Instead of using any crude mechanical method to force open the ATM machine, the thieves used technology to break the digital code of the ATM machine,” the police officer said.

A case has been registered and investigations have been started into the burglary at the bank.

Instances of bank robberies have taken place in the Kashmir Valley many times since the outbreak of the ongoing insurgency in 1989, but the hi-tech burglary proves bank looters have come of age.
