AIMF along with Furfurasharif Muzadeddia Anath Foundation called a three hour shutdown over Nandigram and Taslima Nasreen visa issue.

Idris Ali said that the police arrested about 200 protestors even before the blockade. This apparently enraged the protestors.

“We admit that the situation has now gone out of our hands. But had the police not provoked us, things would not have taken such a violent turn,” Ali told PTI news agency.

Appealing for peace, Mr. Ali condemned the violence saying “I condemn whatever happened later. It was not our aim to foment trouble. It could be that some anti-socials backed by the CPI(M) spread the violence.”
