Lack of practices inhibits harmony of Brazilian soccer team

Brasilia : After the match against Uruguay for the 2010 World Cup qualifying stage ends this Wednesday, Brazil will only unite again on the field in June 2008. This could be a potential problem for the team’s harmony on the field.

“I would love to practice during this long wait, even though we won’t have any games. However, FIFA has their rules, and we will respect them. Also, other soccer clubs will not allow their players to leave the team for such a long period. The best thing we can do is to take advantage of the time we have together,” said Dunga, the team’s head coach.

After the match Wednesday, the next time the Brazilian team plays will be next July. After their traditional weeklong practice on Comary Field in Rio de Janeiro, the five-time World Cup champions will face the Paraguayan national team in Paraguay, and are then scheduled to play their archrivals Argentina in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

“Our encounters are always complicated. First of all, we need to have a recuperation practice, and after, something a little more technical. It is only natural that after our first game that we find some type of harmony. And, it’s a good thing that most of our players come from Europe with their time difference,” added the coach.

During this seven-month break between the games against Uruguay and Paraguay, the team will have at least two friendly games. However, the preparation period is minimal and the practice on Comary Field will not be a large factor.

This year, the head coach of the Brazilian national team only had the opportunity to have the team practice together just three times on Comary Field in Teresopolis, Rio de Janeiro.

The first time they met was just before the American Cup. The second was in October just before they played against Colombia and Ecuador, and their third meeting took place in November, before they confronted the Peruvian and the Uruguayan national teams.
