Nakul, 13, a student of Balak Ram Higher Secondary School, was crushed under the wheels of the Blueline bus, plying on Route No 108 between Hari Nagar and Nehru Vihar, while he was crossing the road at the Wazirabad traffic signal around 8 a.m.

Police said the victim was admitted to the Sushrut Trauma Centre, where he succumbed to his head injuries.

“Nakul was going to attend his school nearby when the mishap occurred. We have arrested the driver Ram Singh and a case has been registered at the Timarpur police station,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (north Delhi) Devesh Srivastva.

The more than 4,000-strong Blueline bus fleet, which forms a crucial part of Delhi’s public transport system, is also responsible for injuries to more than 160 people this year.

The authorities have announced plans to phase out the buses and introduce a more professionally run service.
