Shimla : The filing of nomination papers for the second phase of polling for assembly elections began Friday in Himachal Pradesh.
Manisha Nanda, the state’s chief electoral officer, said: “Candidates will be able to file their nomination papers from Nov 23 to Nov 30.”
The last date of scrutiny will be Dec 1, and withdrawals will take place till Dec 3. Polling will take place for the 65 assembly seats on Dec 19. The votes will be counted on Dec 28.
The three seats of Bharmaur, Lahaul and Spiti, and Kinnaur have already gone to the polls in the first phase on Nov 14 due to the threat of early snowfall.
Nanda said the election commission has identified possible dual registered voters and informed concerned officials to look into this.
She said since the model code of conduct was already in force all political parties should take permission for the use of rally grounds, rest houses, and helipads among other places.
Both the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are giving final touches to the lists of candidates who will contest the forthcoming polls.
The Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) is hoping to give tickets to disgruntled members of these two parties and make its impact in the state for the first time.
