“Central agencies did not give us any tip-off on the movement of these terrorists nor did they sound any alert. This reflects the total failure of the central intelligence agencies.”

She said at a press conference that the state’s special task force had been put on high alert. The investigation has been entrusted to them and bomb disposal squads have been spread across the three cities to look for unexploded bombs if any.

The chief minister has announced compensation of Rs.200,000 each for each of the dead and Rs.50,000 to the injured.

She also confirmed that timer devices had been used in the explosions, which took place within minutes of each other around 1.30 p.m.

Nine people were killed and 45 injured in Varanasi and four died in Faizabad. Six blasts took place in all – three in Varanasi, two in Faizabad and one in Lucknow.
