Move for no-confidence motion against BJP in Chhattisgarh

Raipur : Chhattisgarh’s main opposition party, the Congress has decided to move a no-confidence motion against the faction ridden Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in the winter session of the assembly beginning next week, sources said Friday.

Congress has 34 members in a 90-member state assembly, the BJP 52 members and the Nationalist Congress Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party one each. Two seats are vacant.

“For the first time since the BJP came to power in December 2003, we are moving a no-confidence motion against the saffron government in the winter session for failing on all fronts mainly on maintaining law and order situation and mass corruption in development and welfare schemes,” a top Congress leader told IANS.

Political analysts say the Congress move does not pose any threat to the stability of the BJP government, which completes four years in office Dec 7.

With the no-confidence motion the Congress hopes to give a fillip to rebellious activities within the BJP. Almost two-dozen BJP legislators are reportedly unhappy with the style of functioning of Chief Minister Raman Singh.

In July some BJP leaders complained to the party high command to replace Singh, but the suggestion was turned down.
