New Delhi : More than 200 passengers of a SpiceJet flight headed for Goa had a narrow escape at Delhi airport Friday when the pilot was asked to abort the takeoff after another plane was spotted on the same runway.
The SpiceJet flight was forced to return to the bay at around 11 a.m. after the air traffic controller (ATC) alerted it about the other airliner on the runway.
“Our pilot immediately applied the brakes and returned to the bay. Around 210 passengers, including five journalists, were on the plane,” said a SpiceJet spokesperson.
“The ATC officials asked us to let the other flight go first and stay for some time for a safety check-up. The flight finally departed at around 1 p.m.,” the official added.
The director general of civil aviation (DGCA) has ordered an inquiry into the incident.
