A policeman told Xinhua that the blast occurred when a mini-bus was approaching the convoy in Wazir Akbar Khan of central Kabul.

Afghan interior ministry spokesman Zamari Bashari confirmed that the attack targeted foreign troops.

The explosion site was located on a road just behind the Pakistani embassy in Afghanistan.

Xinhua reporters on the spot saw parts of damaged roadside walls, a destroyed white car, and even some body parts, which had turned black.

Scores of policemen have cordoned off the area. There has been no confirmation about the number of casualties yet.

Earlier on Sunday, a Taliban suicide attack in Paghman district, 20 km west of Kabul, killed 10 people — one NATO soldier and nine civilians.

Militancy and violence have claimed the lives of more than 5,800 people so far this year in Afghanistan.
