Bhopal : The Madhya Pradesh Assembly was adjourned for the day Tuesday after two brief adjournments following protests by the opposition MLAs demanding the chief minister’s resignation over issue of buying dumper trucks.

After the house assembled in the morning, all opposition members – led by the leader of opposition Jamuna Devi and former chief minister Digvijay Singh – reached the well of the house raising slogans to demand Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s resignation. The opposition members also displayed plastic dumper models in the house.

They demanded Chouhan’s resignation as the state Lokayukta (anti-corruption cell) had registered a FIR against him, his wife and others for alleged corruption in purchase of four dumpers, which were later hired to the Rewa-based JP Cement Company.

The FIR was registered on the directive of a local court.

The adjournment motion by the opposition on the alleged corruption of the chief minister was accepted but could not be debated Tuesday due to the slogan shouting by the opposition legislators.
