Kolkata : A West Bengal court Wednesday rejected the bail plea of Idris Ali, held for last week’s violence here that forced Bangladeshi author Taslima Nasreen to flee the city, and remanded him in judicial custody till Dec 5.

Ali, an advocate and president of the All India Minority Forum (AIMF), was produced before the Bankshall court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Feroza Begum who rejected his bail plea and remanded him in judicial custody till Dec 5.

The forum’s agitation against Nasreen’s stay in Kolkata as well as alleged atrocities in Nandigram led to violence and riots in the heart of the city, leading to deployment of the army.
