Mayawati blames central governments for terror strikes

Lucknow : Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati Wednesday again blamed successive central governments for the serial bombings in the state last week and said that lack of adequate protection of international borders was responsible for uncontrolled infiltration of terrorists.

“It is the duty of the centre to maintain security along all international borders and infiltration by terrorists and other undesirable element becomes easy when this security is improper,” Mayawati told reporters here.

She said the serial blasts in Varanasi, Faizabad and Lucknow Friday could have been averted if the borders were secure.

She said she had written to the central government in this regard.

However, she added: “It is not that I am trying to run down a particular party or government. I feel that successive governments have done precious little to protect our borders and they are all to share the blame.

“We have been doing our bit by extending all cooperation to the centre in this regard, but they also have to be forthcoming because the task can be accomplished in the true sense.”

Soon after the three blasts in court premises that claimed 13 lives, Mayawati had held central intelligence agencies responsible for the tragedy.
