Kumar Vishwajit, a Class 7 student of DAV Public School in Munger, about 150 km from here, was kidnapped a few days back. His body was recovered from a well Wednesday, police said.

The victim’s parents received several ransom calls, but during police investigation it was found the calls were made by schoolchildren from PCO booths. Police have taken five students of the same school, all his classmates, into custody for interrogation.

In a separate incident, 14-year-old Manish Kumar, son of a brick kiln owner, was kidnapped Wednesday when he was on his way from Usri village to DAV School in Siwan, about 150 km from here. However, the police recovered him within a few hours after they shot dead one of his kidnappers.

A homeopath was abducted Tuesday from Bhagalpur, about 200 km from here, and a 16-year-old boy was abducted from Jehanabad district of Bihar.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar claimed last week that abduction cases had come down drastically during his rule. But the ground reality remains the same.

Akash Pandey, a 14-year-old boy who was kidnapped on way to school here on Aug 10, remains untraced.

Ankit, another six-year-old school student, was kidnapped on April 12 from outside his school. Police suspect his abductors might have killed him.

However, Ankit’s parents do not accept the police theory as his body is yet to be found. “We still believe Ankit is alive,” his father said.

Nearly 5,000 people, including several children, were abducted last year. Over 2,210 people were kidnapped in the first half of this year alone.
