“National intelligence agents and coalition forces carried out an operation in Zherai district last night,” provincial police chief told DPA.

“In this operation 30 Taliban were killed and 12 of them including three of their commanders were arrested,” He said, adding that five of the detained Taliban militants had been wounded during the operation.

In a separate incident, militants loyal to the ousted Taliban regime burned down four coalition forces’ logistics trucks in Ghazni province Thursday, a police official, said.

He said that a security guard for the convoy was also killed in the gun battle and the insurgents fled the area on the Kabul-Kandahar highway after setting fire to the trucks.

The Taliban militants, whose government was toppled in late 2001 in a internationally-led campaign, have burned dozens of trucks carrying goods for the international forces in Afghanistan this year.
