Peters said India’s rapidly growing economy, expertise in science and technology and increasing geo-political importance makes it a priority relationship for New Zealand.

New Zealand’s exports to India have grown substantially in the past few years, and reached $278 million (357 million NZ dollars) this year, up 85 percent as compared to the volume in 2004.

Holborow is currently a senior functionary in the New Zealand foreign ministry’s Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) affairs and co-director of Asia Division.

Holborow will assume his new charge in India in December, succeeding Graeme Waters, who will return to Wellington.
