“We have registered a case against Jai Kishan Sharma on the statement of his co-worker, who has accused him of molestation,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer Delhi) Sagar Preet Hooda said.

Beena Joshi alleged that Sharma of Sultanpuri constituency in outer Delhi molested her when she went to meet him at a school run by him in the same area.

“I went to him complaining about my house electricity bill. I asked him to help me in settling the high electricity bill of Rs.100,000, but he then started forcing me to have sexual relations with him,” Joshi told reporters.

“Sharma also said he would take me to other politicians and they will give me good money as I am beautiful and poor. He said other women are also doing it and I should do it to earn money,” Joshi added.

She said that when she refused his demands and tried to leave the room, Sharma tried to molest her.

“He threatened that if I revealed the matter to anyone he would kill me and my entire family. I reached home in a rickshaw and told my family about the incident,” she said.

“After consulting my family and relatives I called the police and went to the Sultanpuri police station to lodge a complaint against him,” Joshi added.

Hundreds of people in her area took to the streets after hearing of the incident and created a ruckus at the police station and legislator’s office chanting slogans against Delhi Police. The mob demanded immediate arrest of Sharma.

However, Sharma denied the allegations and said that it was a “conspiracy” against him by his rivals in the Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party.

“Beena is like my sister and I plead to her not to implicate me in a false case. It’s nothing but a political conspiracy against me,” Sharma told reporters, adding that he had konwn her for 17 years.

Police said they had registered a case and would take action after investigating the matter. “We will shortly interrogate Sharma,” said Hooda.
