Kochi : India cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni took the media for a ride here Monday afternoon when he decided not to attend the official press briefing on the eve of Tuesday’s second one-day international against Australia.

Dhoni’s decision to skip the briefing was a shift from the usual practice and the waiting journalists were left high and dry.

The Indian captain along with vice-captain Yuvraj Singh, however, had enough time for a shoot with a private television channel at the team hotel, about 35 km from the city. Media persons had a torrid time as they travelled all the way from the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, which is in the centre of this port city.

The media briefing was earlier supposed to be at the stadium but due to inclement weather it was moved to the hotel after the Indian team cancelled its practice session.

The Australians were more professional and stand-in captain Adam Gilchrist addressed the media and took questions as scheduled.

From the Indians, team manager Lalchand Rajput briefed the media but didn’t say anything worthwhile.
