Drugs worth Rs.1.5 mn seized in Delhi, five held

New Delhi : Five alleged drug peddlers including a woman have been arrested here for possessing contraband valued at Rs.1.5 million in the international market, police said Monday.

Khairun Nisha, 40, was arrested near the Gurudwara Nanak Sahib bus stand in Wazirabad in northwest Delhi Monday morning after she had come to deliver a drug consignment in the city. Police seized 200 grams of heroin from her.

Police said information was received that Nisha, a resident of neighbouring Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, would come to the city to supply drugs to some unknown people in Wazirabad.

“She had been earlier arrested on the same charge and at that time 750 gm of heroin was recovered from her. Nisha revealed that she was illiterate and to feed her seven children she entered into drug peddling,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Narcotics & Crime Prevention Cell) A.S. Cheema.

In another incident, Mohammed Kadir, 36, was arrested near the Karkardooma Court complex in east Delhi Sunday with 1.5 kg of heroin worth Rs.300,000 in the international market.

Cheema said Kadir in his interrogation said that he hailed from Uttar Pradesh and poverty forced him to sell drugs.

Sleuths of the narcotics cell arrested Raisuddin Khan, 28, from Khanpur area in south Delhi Saturday with 225 gm of heroin.

In a separate case, Delhi Police’s Crime Branch arrested Mohammed Kashid Khan, 25, and his accomplice Sayyed Vahid, 20, Saturday from west Delhi’s Tilak Nagar area with 10 kg of high-quality opium worth Rs.1 million in the international market.

“They have admitted that they belong to Farukhabad in Uttar Pradesh and had come to the city to sell drugs,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Madhup Tiwari said.
