India condemns bombing in Maldives

New Delhi : India Monday strongly condemned the bomb explosion in the capital of the Indian Ocean island-nation of Maldives Saturday that left 12 foreign tourists wounded.

“This incident seems designed to disturb the traditional peace and tranquility of the country and impair the economic livelihood of the people,” said external affairs ministry spokesperson Navtej Sarna in a statement.

He added that India was “ready to offer all assistance in investigation as well as medical assistance to the government and the people of Maldives”.

The homemade bomb, placed near a recreation park in Male, wounded eight Chinese, two Japanese and two Britons. It was the first ever bomb attack reported in the picturesque archipelago nation, which counts tourism as its main revenue earner.
