Ekka participated in a feast at Pakartand village in his home district Simdega where mutton was served on Oct 2.

District superintendent of police Martin Porus and other officials also participated in the feast.

Ekka was a guest at a football match that followed the feast in Simdega, 170 km from state capital Ranchi.

The Congress has decided to launch an agitation against the minister, demanding his dismissal.

“The minister has committed a crime by consuming mutton on Gandhi Jayanti. A criminal case should be lodged against him and he should be sacked immediately,” said Niel Tirkey, a Congress legislator.

The minister has refused to comment on the issue.
