Gandhi, whose veiled remarks about opposition to the Indo-US nuclear deal to a gathering of NRIs in New York created a furore here, is expected to take a decision on what stand the party will take in Karnataka where the JD-S and the BJP are locked in a power struggle.

While addressing a gathering of Indian Americans in New York, Gandhi reportedly downplayed the concerns expressed by the Left parties over the nuclear deal. She said a “great deal” had been made in the public domain of the opinions expressed by the communists but that it should not cause alarm.

Left sources said they were expecting Gandhi to give an explanation over her reported remarks.

Accompanying Gandhi was her MP son Rahul Gandhi.
