London : England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff’s chances of taking part in the Test series in Sri Lanka this December seem to be receding after his latest consultation with an ankle specialist in the Netherlands.

Sources close to Flintoff told the Daily Mail that he is almost certain to miss the three-Test tour of Sri Lanka and may not be fit in time for the tour of New Zealand next February.

The Dutch specialist’s report is due to be sent to the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) shortly.

“Freddie is becoming frustrated and worried,” the tabloid quoted the source as saying.

“He has not done any training since returning from the Twenty20 World Championships in South Africa and the earliest he could be back is New Zealand in February, but there’s no guarantee of that, either.

“We are looking anywhere on the planet for help. There might be a surgeon in America, for example, who has encountered something like the problems Freddie is suffering … maybe a baseball player or basketball player … anything, to be honest.”
