Inter-Korean ties, six-party talks positive: South Korea PM

By Xinhua

Seoul : Inter-Korean relations and the six-party talks have developed smoothly and formed a positive cycle, South Korean Prime Minister Han Duck-soo said Thursday.

Han made the remarks at a meeting of cabinet members in Seoul, a spokesman for the presidential office told reporters.

“The South-North Korean summit will yield good results and the six parties involved (in talks on the nuclear issue on the Korean peninsula) have issued a new joint document,” the spokesman quoted Han as saying.

“This indicates inter-Korean relations and the process of the six-party talks have formed a positive cycle,” Han said.

South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun, who travelled some 200 km overland to Pyongyang Tuesday for the second inter-Korean summit, will return to Seoul after signing a joint declaration with North Korean leader Kim Jong Il and attending a farewell luncheon, the spokesman added.

The second session of the sixth round of six-party talks ended in Beijing Wednesday with a joint document on the second-phase actions toward the denuclearisation of the peninsula.

According to the joint document, North Korea agreed to disable all its existing nuclear facilities subject to abandonment under the September 2005 joint statement and the Feb 13 agreement this year.
