Dhaka : Haris Chowdhury, political secretary to Bangladeshi former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia, was awarded three years in prison by a special court Thursday for illegally keeping foreign currency at his home.
The sentence was given by Judge Jhed Mansur of the special court opened by the present caretaker government to try the corruption cases.
Haris Chowdhury has been on the run after the caretaker government led by Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed took office on Jan 12.
An earlier media report had said Haris Chowdhury had fled to India.
