LeT Div Comndr among 2 militants killed in Kashmir: IGP

Srinagar : Kashmir police today claimed to have gunned down two militants including a Divisional Commander of Lashkar-e-Toiba, in an encounter at Gamroo village of Bandipore in North Kashmir this morning.

Terming the killing of the two militants as a major success for police and security forces IGP Kashmir Mr. S M Sahai claimed that one of the two militants was identified as Musa alias Wafa Divisional Commander of LET who had taken over from Salaudin alias Haider alias Bilal last year.

He said the said militant was looking after the LET operations in Bandipore. The neutralization of this militant has given severe jolt to the LET in North Kashmir generally and in Bandipore Particularly.

Official sources quoting SSP Baramulla Viplav Kumar told News Agency of Kashmir that on specific input regarding the presence of militants in the village Gamroo of Bandipore, adding a joint search operation was launched with assistance from 10-Para, 23-Punjab

“The militants who were hiding in the house came out of the house and were killed in the encounter” they claimed.

During the gunfight one JCO of 10-PARA were also killed. Sources said that the slain militants belong to the Lashkar-e-Toiba, he added.
Two AK rifles, six magazines, two pouches, 106 rounds and two hand grenades were recovered from the encounter site the operation was on till last reports came in.
