All the police stations in the city and outskirts were put on increased vigil and security was stepped up in public places and places of worship, especially in the Muslim dominated old city area in view of huge gathering for Ramadan prayers and shopping for Eid.

Police sources said intelligence agencies were on the lookout for suspected Bangladeshis.

The security for the Indian and the Australian teams, in the city for the third one-dayer, has also been further tightened.

The Hyderabad police have been on alert after Aug 25 twin blasts, at a park and a popular eatery, killed 44 people. Earlier, the blast at the historic Mecca Masjid on May 18 had claimed 9 lives.

Police believe that Bangladesh-based Harkat-Ul Jihad-e-Islami (HUJI) was behind the blasts as also the suspected suicide blast at the police commissioner’s task force office in 2005. Police suspect that HUJI is planning more suicide attacks.
