New Delhi : India Friday welcomed the summit meeting between the leaders of North and South Korea in Pyongyang.
South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun and North Korean leader Kim Jong Il held the second-ever leaders’ summit, which lasted for three days. The meeting ended Thursday.
The first summit was held in 2000 in North Korea.
“We welcome the positive outcomes and initiatives taken by the two leaders to promote peace and prosperity on the Korean peninsula,” said external affairs ministry spokesperson Navtej Sarna.
India also welcomed the progress made in the last round of the six-party talks in Beijing last month on the issue of nuclear reactors in North Korea.
According to the agreement reached in the talks, North Korea had committed to disabling its Yongbyon reactor and related sites, and also agreed to disclose its entire nuclear programme by the end of this year.
