Patna : A young man, accused of rape, died in police custody in a town in Bihar Friday.
Amrendra Kumar, in his 20s, was accused of raping a local girl, died after he was taken into police detention in Dumra police station in Sitamrhi district. The death sparked off angry protests by the people.
The victim’s family alleged he was killed in police custody after he was brutally tortured and beaten black and blue.
The police arrested him two days back following a complaint from the girl.
How could he die in police custody without any health complaint? It was a cold-blooded murder, Kumar’s relatives claimed.
But the police denied the charges.
“The deceased complained of some health problems Thursday night, but soon his condition deteriorated. He was rushed to a hospital, where he breathed his last,” a police official said.
Angry people are now demanding action against the guilty police officials.
