Baghdad : The US military said Friday that at least 25 suspected insurgents in Iraq were killed by its forces during an operation.
The operation near Baquba, 60 km north of Baghdad, was launched early Friday and targeted a militia commander “believed to be associated with members of the Iranian revolutionary guard – the Quds Force” in smuggling weapons from Iran to Iraq, the military said in a statement.
According to the statement, US aircraft also destroyed two houses while killing the insurgents who fired rocket-propelled grenades.
The decision to launch the operation came when the US forces saw an insurgent carrying what appeared to be an anti-aircraft weapon, the statement said.
