Syria, Turkey call for resumption of dialogue among Palestinians

Damascus : Syria and Turkey on Saturday stressed the necessity to resume dialogue among the Palestinians in order to ensure the unity of their cause and establish an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.

Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem and his visiting Turkish counterpart Ali Babacan made the call during a meeting, according to the official SANA news agency.

During the talks, the two sides discussed the latest developments in the region, particularly in Iraq, the Palestinian territories and Lebanon, as well as the efforts being exerted to activate the peace process.

They stressed the necessity to achieve a just and comprehensive peace in the region and restore the occupied Arab territories, including the occupied Syrian Golan.

On Iraq, the two sides expressed care for preserving unity, sovereignty and independence of the war-torn country and the achievement of national reconciliation there.

Meanwhile, they also discussed the standing bilateral relations and ways of boosting them in the service of the two friendly countries.

Muallem stressed the importance to continue consultation between the two countries and the care to boost cooperation in various fields, SANA said.

Babacan arrived here earlier in the day for a two-day official visit as part of his Middle East tour, which will also lead him to Jordan, Israel and the Palestinian territories.
