The prime minister did not speak to Kumaraswamy, whose ministry has been reduced to minority as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) withdrew support to it last week, a statement issued by the All India Congress Commmittee Monday evening said.

A newspaper report from Bangalore said that the Karnataka chief minister received a phone call from the prime minister, “appreciating the work done by him” and advising him “not to act in haste”.

Kumaraswamy was expected to resign late Monday.

“The Congress party reiterates that the prime minister did not speak to Kumaraswamy. The statement is absolutely false,” the party said.

The Congress legislative party Monday met Governor Rameshwar Thakur and demanded that Kumaraswamy’s ministry be sacked if he did not resign on his own.
