Chennai : India may soon have its own Formula One motor racing track if German architects visiting New Delhi next week find the facilities here conducive, said Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president Suresh Kalmadi Monday.

“We have our own F1 racer Narain Karthikeyan and Vijay Mallya has his own team in the top category. Though bringing the crowning glory of motor sport to India isn’t easy, we are pulling out all the stops. The officials have inspected two tracks in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh,” Kalmadi said during a prize distribution ceremony of a racing meet here.

However, the finalisation may take between 18 months to two years.

“In our view, the track should be very near New Delhi because it is our nation’s capital and has two well equipped airports which can facilitate bringing in the participating vehicles and the racers. For a start we will be preparing a master plan for the track and await clearances from the international racing authorities,” the IOA president said.
