The earthquake, felt at 6.42 a.m., had its epicentre in the border district of Kutch, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

“Though the region is very prone to earthquakes, the morning tremor was low in intensity. We have not received any report of loss of lives or damage to properties,” an IMD official said.

In 2001, a devastating earthquake with epicentre in Kutch killed thousands of people in Gujarat and rendered nearly a million people homeless.
