Narmada valley projects generate power worth Rs. 2000 cr.

Bhopal: The Narmada valley projects in Madhya Pradesh have all set to make the state self-sufficient in power.

The hydel power projects have gradually reaching to touch their full potential. Indira Sagar hydel power project in Khandwa district had started generating power in year 2003-04 with one unit now generating power from all its eight units of 100 m.w. capacity . Till August 31st, 8009 million units had been generated from ISP.The inter-state Sardar
Sarovar hydel power project is also at its full generation. Till now 7789 M.U. have been generated to which Madhya Pradesh shared 4439 M.U. as its 57 per cent share.

Yet another hydel power project on Narmada in Khandwa district, Omkareshwar project has also started generation out of its 8 units 5 have been synchronized so far. The project has contributed 5 crore power units to the state. The canal head power house of Rani Avanti Bai Sagar project at Jabalpur with its installed 10 M.W. capacity started last year added 85 lakh power units. The power generated by Narmada Valley Development Authority, (NVDA)projects estimated to be worth about Rs. 2000 crore.

According to Vice Chairman NVDA Uday Kumar Varma work on 15 M.W. capacity canal head power house of Indira Sagar project is in progress Besides 9 mini hydel power project in Upper Narmada Zone have also been proposed. After completion these project would create 326 m.w additional power potential to the state.
