The first blast targeted the home of the town’s police chief, General Saad al-Nufus, the Dubai-based al-Arabya TV channel quoted the police as saying.

At least four people were killed and eight injured in the attack, including al-Nufus and some of his relatives, police said.

Minutes later, the second blast hit a mosque in Baiji, which is near the house of Shaykh Hamad al-Juburi, a tribal chief involved in a crackdown on Al Qaeda in the northern Iraqi province of Salah al-Din.

At least 10 people were killed and 22 injured in the attack. Al-Juburi was unhurt, al-Arabya reported.
