FIR in Dhanni Deeh rape case names 36 people including a BSP min. brother

Lucknow: 36 people have been named as accused in Dhanni Deeh village rape case FIR. This was revealed by UP Police to the High Court here when Court wanted to know the action taken by the police in this case. The UP Police informed the court that they have filed an FIR accusing 36 people for rape and related charges. Brother of BSP minister Daddu Mishra is also named in the FIR.

In July of this year, a mob of upper caste Hindus from neighbouring village attacked Muslims of Dhanni Deeh village, destroying their property, beating everyone and 17 women alleged that their were sexually assaulted.

Police initially refused to register their complaints and after pressure from local politicians they had the women examined after few days when it was difficult to prove rape allegation. Investigation from legal non-profit organizations and the Milli Gazette newspaper revealed injuries and bruises on all women.

A team from the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) also visited the area but its report has not been made public. Teesta Setalvad and Prof. Roop Rekha Verma recently demanded releases of NHRC report.

The FIR filed few days after the incident did not name anybody and did not mention rape charges.

A PIL was filed in UP High Court by All Indian Muslim Council and in its hearing today, the Court was informed by the UP govt. that an FIR have been registered accusing 36 people by name of various charges including rape. Accused have been charged under IPC 147, 395, 376, 354, 364, 120b of Indian Penal Code.

FIR have been registered in Sirsiya police station by the Shravasti police naming 36 for raping women, girls and widows of Dhanni Deeh village. 5 children and some women who were raped are still reported to be missing. This FIR has given a new turn and a hope to the victims.
