Industry majors on hand for Chhattisgarh’s foundation day

Raipur : India’s steel majors and leading power producers will be attending Chhattisgarh state’s seventh foundation day celebrations starting Nov 1 here.

The companies will set up stalls at Science College ground at state capital Raipur to showcase India’s industrial revolution in recent years at the weeklong festivities.

Tata Steel, India’s largest private sector steel producer, Bhilai Steel Plant, country’s number one public sector steel maker and flagship unit of Steel Authority of India Ltd, Essar Steel and Jindal Steel and Power Ltd will be among the 80 companies to put up stalls.

Besides steel majors, public sector power utility NTPC Ltd, India’s largest iron ore producer and exporter National Mineral Development Corp (NMDC), aluminium major Bharat Aluminium Co and dozens of other leading power sector majors have reserved space for stalls at the anniversary celebration site, said officials.

Chhattisgarh ranks third in production of India’s mineral wealth. It was carved out from Madhya Pradesh on Nov 1, 2000 and the state government spends lavishly to celebrate its foundation day.

“Besides Indian power and steel majors and dozens of Chhattisgarh-based industrial houses including Raipur Alloys and Steel Ltd and several sponge iron companies, about 13 overseas Asian companies, mostly from China, have shown keen interest to set up stalls at Raipur to impress upon India about their technological capabilities,” official sources said.

Chief Minister Raman Singh has invited Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) veteran L.K. Advani as chief guest for the inaugural function. BJP president Rajnath Singh has been requested to attend the concluding ceremony.
