Four million to stand up against poverty

Bangalore, (IANS) Over four million people around the world will stand up and speak out against poverty during a joint initiative of the Art of Living Foundation and the UN Millennium Campaign.

On Wednesday, the foundation will organise several public events in over 100 countries for people from all walks of life to come together and take a pledge in support of the eradication of extreme poverty, it said in a statement.

In Bangalore, spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar will lead 40,000 people, it said. A similar number will assemble on Parliament Street in New Delhi.

“The idea behind the campaign is to remind world leaders of their promise of achieving the Millennium Development Goals by 2015 and to urge them to show the necessary political will,” an Art of Living spokesperson said.
