Kolkata,(IANS) Nine people were killed when the Maruti van they were travelling in rammed into a truck coming from opposite direction Monday at Illambazar in Birbhum district, around 220 km from Kolkata.
“Six people, including the driver of the car, died on the spot while three succumbed to their injuries at Bolpur sub-divisional hospital. The condition of one, identified as Sheikh Hiju, admitted to Burdwan Medical College and Hospital, is stated to be serious,” West Bengal Inspector General of Police (law and order) Raj Kanojia told IANS.
“The occupants of the truck have been admitted to different hospitals in the district. Their condition is serious,” he added.
The victims, all residents of Dubrajpur in the district, had hired the car and were going to see a film in Illambazar when the accident occurred.
