Kolkata : Gautam Mohan Chakraborty was appointed Kolkata police commissioner after Prasun Mukherjee was Wednesday transferred for his controversial role in the mysterious death of a Muslim youth last month.
West Bengal Home Secretary P.R. Roy told reporters here that Chakraborty would take over soon.
Kolkata also got two new deputy commissioners as both DC (Headquarters) Gyanwant Singh and DC (Detective Department) Ajay Kumar were removed from their positions for involvement in the same case.
Vineet Goel and Vishal Garg replaced the tainted duo respectively.
Faced with a court rebuke and public outcry, Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya removed five police officials, including Prasun Mukherjee, for their role in the intimidation of Rizwanur Rahman. The youth’s body was found by a railway track on Sep 21, barely a month after his marriage with Priyanka Todi, the daughter of a powerful city industrialist Ashok Todi.
