Tehran : Iran’s religious leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei has assured visiting Russian President Vladimir Putin of Tehran’s cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
“Cooperation (with IAEA) is logical and proper policy which will be continued,” Khamenei assured Putin during a meet here Tuesday ahead of the scheduled nuclear talks with the European Union next week.
Putin met Khamenei during an official visit to Tehran for the second Caspian Sea littoral states’ summit, state news agency IRNA said.
“Tehran is determined to become self-sufficient in the area of nuclear energy, therefore it seriously pursues the issue of enrichment,” Khamenei said.
Welcoming expansion of ties with Russia, Khamenei told his Russian guest the bilateral relationship is for the benefit of both the countries.
“As presence of an independent Iran benefits Russia, presence of a powerful Russia would benefit Tehran,” Khamenei told Putin.
Khamenei regretted the low level of bilateral economic cooperation with Russia called for deeper and expanding cooperation between the two countries in various fields.
