Vipul Kansal, a class four student, was abducted from outside his father’s flat in Neel Kanth Apartments in Rohini Sector-13 of northwest Delhi Monday. According to the police, Siddharth Jaitley, 26, his father Parvinder’s business rival, carried out the abduction.

The police have arrested Jaitley on charges of abduction and murder of the boy, and for criminal conspiracy.

The police said Jaitley called the boy, who was entering the residential colony after alighting from his G.D. Goenka School bus, to take out some papers from the boot of his Honda City car.

The unsuspecting boy approached Jaitley, as he used to be a business acquaintance of his father and frequently visited their residence. Jaitley then pushed the boy inside the already opened boot of the car and fled from there.

“After kidnapping, Jaitley took the boy to a storehouse and made repeated ransom calls on the same day to the boy’s family. In the initial few calls, he also made the victim speak to his parents and negotiated the ransom amount,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (northwest Delhi) Manish Aggarwal.

“He asked the parents to deliver the ransom amount Tuesday near the Ranjit Singh flyover in central Delhi. Jaitley called the victim’s family next day and directed them to throw the bag containing Rs.3.3 million as part of ransom from the top of the flyover. He also said he would release the boy within an hour of taking the amount,” Aggarwal added.

He said that Jaitley ‘s Old Rajender Nagar house in west Delhi was raided when the boy failed to return four hours after the money was given. “We instantly detained the accused and seized Rs.3.3 million along with the car used in crime.”

“Jaitley, during his interrogation, revealed that he had taken the kidnapped boy to his storehouse in his car, and after making the child speak with his parents he had again put him inside the boot of the car.

“Jaitley said while he was taking the child to Samaipur Badli (northeast Delhi) area, he realized that the boy had fainted. Out of fear, he strangulated the child and disposed of the body in a secluded place near in Murthal area of Sonepat,” DCP Manish Aggarwal said.

The police official said Jaitley also stripped the boy off clothes and took away his school identity card so that no one could identify the body.

“Jaitley also revealed that in the recent past he had incurred financial loses and was in monetary dispute with the victim’s father. He was aware that Parvinder could pay any amount for the release of his child.

“He abducted the boy, thinking that he could pay off all his debts with the ransom amount. We have produced him before a city court and are seeking his remand,” Aggarwal said.
