Chennai : All legislators of the opposition AIADMK were suspended from the Tamil Nadu assembly for the rest of the session following scuffles over Leader of Opposition J. Jayalalitha’s statement that her life was in danger.

The assembly witnessed noisy scenes after Local Administration Minister MK Stalin raised a privilege issue against Jayalalitha for her remarks implying he was plotting her murder.

“Jayalalitha is making these outrageous allegations all the time. If she has any evidence to back it up, she should prove it beyond doubt. On my part, I am willing to face any legal action initiated by her in this regard. Therefore I am moving a privilege issue in this matter (against Jayalalitha and those sections in the local media which played it up),” Stalin said.

AIADMK legislators immediately raised slogans against Stalin and argued with the watch and ward staff in the house. This led Speaker R. Auvudaiyappan to suspend them for the rest of the session.

The speaker also referred the matter to the privileges committee.

“There is prima facie evidence for the privileges committee to go into the issue and hence it is being referred to it to examine the next course of action,” the speaker said.

On Wednesday, a day after an unidentified intruder barged into her residence here, Jayalalitha alleged that there was a plot to murder her and the DMK government in the state was ignoring the threat to her life.
