India, Pakistan committed to ceasefire along LoC

New Delhi : India and Pakistan Monday recommitted themselves to maintaining the ceasefire on the Line of Control (LOC) as officials from the two sides held the fourth round of the expert-level dialogue on conventional confidence building measures (CBMs) here Thursday.

The two sides reviewed the implementation of the existing CBMs, India’s external affairs ministry said in a press statement.

“Consultations continued with the aim of strengthening the ongoing process of confidence building in the conventional field,” it said.

As part of their talks, held in a “cordial and constructive atmosphere”, the two sides “reiterated their commitment to uphold the ceasefire” along the LoC that divides Kashmir.

The “progress” made in this round will be reported to the respective foreign secretaries.

Earlier, India indicated the discussions would include arrangements to deal with inadvertent crossers and a agreement on prevention of incidents at sea.

The Indian delegation, comprising of officials from the ministries of external affairs, home affairs and defence, was led by T.C.A. Raghavan, joint secretary (PIA) in the external affairs ministry, while the Pakistani side was led by Aziz Ahmed Choudary, director general (South Asia), ministry of foreign affairs.

The two sides will hold talks on nuclear CBMs Friday.
