Phool walon ki sair will begin 25th October

New Delhi: The festival “Phool Walon Ki Sair” jointly celebrated by all communities of India and representing age old communal harmony of India will be celebrated this year from 25th to 27th October in Mehrauli.

12 states will participate by sending Pankha designed specially for this occasion and cultural group representing bests of their traditions. The traditional 3 day event starts with members of “Anjuman Sair-e-Gul Faroshan” lead by Lt. Governor of Delhi making a presentation of chadar made of flowers in the dargah of Khwaja Bakhtiar Kaki.

Pankhas from different states are taken in a procession on the last day and presented Bakhtiar Kaki’s dargah and temple of Yogmaya Ji.

This festival started by Mughals was stopped in 1942 and again started in 1961 and have been organized every year since.

Today members of the Anjuman met the Vice President of India Hamid Ansari and presented him a traditional pankha. A number of dignitaries including Salman Khurshid were present on the occasion..

Addressing on the occasion the Vice President said that the ‘Phool Walo ki Sair’ is a symbol of composite culture of Delhi but its message of peace unity and prosperity should be spread nationwide. He said that this festival bring peace, prosperity and happiness in our lives. He wished this festival a great success.
